I'm really interested to know if ANYONE operates their DNN site(s) like this on a regular basis:

1) Work in a DEV subdomain (e.g -- sub.mydomain.com), which we might call a "Sandbox"
2) "Push" that to your PROD domain (e.g. -- mydomain.com), which we'll call "Live"

This model would be for a client who demands that they have a Sandbox to play in, testing different things, from skins to images, etc.  The client wants me to create a "pushbutton" type of functionality where they could just "run a script" that would copy the Sandbox to the Live site, whenever they were satisfied that they had made adequate changes to the DEV environment and are ready to "go live" with it.

Chad,

this will only work, if

a) there is no user registration
b) there is no user interaction stored in the database
c) ALL changes are made on dev server

I currently don't suggest to use this approach, because it tents to fail (people being logged into wrong portal, editors fix issues on live site and forget to do it on dev site as well, ...)

Ok, Sebastian, thanks for the suggestions.  I think I have some good material now to make a case against using the approach I mentioned.  The particular internal customer that I'm working with is very much a "have your cake and eat it, too" kind of person.  We'll see how it goes...

:-)
