Sebastian,

I may have spoken too soon.  While the search is working for some search terms it's not working for all search terms.  My assumption is it's not indexing all of the pages.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

~b

Blane,

please be aware, that DNN search is searching for single words only, and doesn't support characters besides A-Z correctly.

What are the terms search is failing for you?

Hi,

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem. I'm using DNN 4.9.4, emptied the tables you suggested, re-indexed the search. I can see in the database that the tables are filled again (SearchItem: 1816 records, SearchItemWord: 6041, SearchItemWordPosition: 12750, SearchWord: 2145 records). I checked in the database if there's one and only one instance of the module Search Results in the portal (no deleted tabs or modules left). I can search on various items, but by far not on all items. I even placed a new TEXT/HTML module and pasted the content into the field that's used for the search-indexer. searching on words in that field (of course after re-indexing) resulted in nothing.

My guess is that the indexer fails to complete its task, but I still can't figure out when or why it stops indexing. No entries in the Windows Eventlog or in the DNN eventlog. I will try to find something in the database that will give us a clue on what point in time or at which module or tab or keyword or ... it stops working. But if there's a known issue (and a solution!) I would be very interested to know!!!

Thanks in advance for all the help anyone can give!

there are multiple options, whiy the indexer may fail to index your content:

  • the indexing task timed out. optimize database performance and review scheduler settings to ensure, indexing doesn't restart, before previous execution completed
  • the module does not provide the content  properly via iSearchable interface
  • your content does contain words with characters besides A-Z or A-Z and 0-9
