I am creating a custom admin menu for a particular role. For Site Settings link I did:

1- Create a new disabled page, lets call it Parent.
2- Create a new page under Parent with name Child.
3- Then I added new entry in table TabModules with ModuleID equal to Site Settings in Modules table.

It is working perfectly. Now I have two questions:

1- How do I set the icon (in this case icon_sitesettings_36px.gif) that appears left to Module Title. I can do it manually by setting column IconFile of table TabModules and then copying the file manually to the portal. Which is a tedious process, so I'd like to do it through the admin pages. Is there any option to change anywhere?

2- How can I remove all panes except ContentPage of the new page? Just like it is done with Admin pages.

Hoping that I made myself clear. Thanks

No response :(

and I have got another question:

I am creating custom host menu which will appear on all portals to a specufic user group (other than Host). But when I add a page it sets PortalID in table Tabs. Whereas PortalID for hosts tabs is Null, so when I set PortalID of my pages to Null it stops appearing.

So I guess somewhere DNN is checking usergroup and if it is Host then it displays the host menu. If this is true then I would like to test for my user group as well. So my question is where it is being done?

DNN code is so complex that it is nearly impossible to find anything :(

Hoping to get an answer this time.

Answer to your original post.

1 - To set an icon to display next to module - Go into module settings and down the page you'll see Page Settings - Icon - you select your icon and it will be displayed nicely on your module and is in fact a cool way to get a graphical menu without using text.

2 - You know the cool thing about DNN is that those panes will hide when you're not using them.  So you don't really have to delete them.  But if you really want to - you need to open the skin file and remove the references to the panes directly in the skin and then re upload.

I hope this helps you a bit.

I am not sure what you're trying to do.. you can create super users manually by adding them under the Host/Super Users  - add user.

If you want to really see how your changes are going you will need to setup a new host user and then log in as them to check it.

I'm not 100% sure if this is the answer you are looking for, but it's the best I can think of at the moment.
