OK, I know, I know this has to go into the top ten stupidest mistakes in DNN but yep I changed the host password and didn't record it. I actually know what it should be, but login fails. So, where in the database can I see the password?

OK, now it's escalated to what seems like a bug. I went to login as admin using dnnadmin which logs me in but requests that I change the password. This I did and I KNOW the password I used. Clicking Login again and trying to use this new password won’t work. Now I can’t admin at all until I can reset these in the db.

HELP - Please <g>

Tony

 Hello Tony,

If it makes you feel any better, I created my first DNN installation last December with various versions of 5.0.0 CTP and 5.0.0.

During initial setups I used Whisper32 to generate my host password, and because it is easy to do, I set a password 50 characters long.

DNN takes the password, but it does not work, and you cannot log in with it, even though it is correct.  I tested the length all the way down to 20 characters.

20 characters or less works fine, 21 or more silently accepted the password but it does not work.

I have not checked this on 5.1.1 but I will do and if it stil exists, I will log it in Gemini?

Does that help you ?  ie, perhaps you did not get it wrong, it may have been a password length issue.

thanks

Mark

 Hello All

Update on passwords, I just testing version 5.1.1 with a password for normal user.  If it is 21 characters or more, the initial screen silently accepts it as a valid password, but then it cannot be used to log in.

Sebasitan, should this be logged in Gemini?  I have never done that yet, so I do not want to log it

a) if it is not relevant because it is documented elsewhere that the password should be 20 chars max

b) if it is already logged,

c) if it is considered unimportant due to other much more important issues.

Let me know what you think,

thanks
