I use SVN to manage source code and it uses hidden folders to store data. When the DNN file manager stores the folders in the DNN Folders table it sets the hidden folders to have the same permissions as standard folders (eg inherited from Portal Root).

I am hoping there is a config setting I have missed that can be used to force DNN to ignore hidden folders or at least set them to have restricted access so that my non-technical users don't get presented with hundreds of additional folders (8 per 'real' folder) that they don't need to access.

Yes I have tried setting permissions manually and this works BUT that means visiting every folder and changing the permissions on the hidden folders AND every time a new folder is added I have to go and manually update permissions.

I would have thought it was natural that hidden folders remain hidden. I don't even care if they are invisible to the host login as they shouldn't be manipulated by anyone.

As far as I know this is not something that you can accomplish.  At least not without modifying code at the core level.

you should be able to exclude portal folders from SVN, aren't you?

I have the same issue. I have set up DFS to replicate files and folders between 2 servers and the core files for DFS are located under portals\0\docs folder (because I want to replicate the docs folder). Although the core DFS files are hidden, DNN file manager seems to pick it. Because of this, in the folders and files table, you can see entries corresponding to the hidden files and folders. I am assuming that they fix this in the next version of DNN. DFS itself is pretty straightforward and smooth. But because of the way DNN and DFS communicate, it makes it so much harder to make the file manager work consistently.

Thank you Mitch,

I am tempted to raise this as a bug and then in the mean time tackle the code to see if I can fix it. I hate having to edit core code as it then has to be maintained across new releases.

It doesn't make logical sense that Hidden files and folders should become exposed by DNN File processing. They are hidden for good reason and should remain hidden unless explicity exposed to the site users. It should be possible to at least set them to restricted access although as I said I don't care if the SVN files are also hidden from the host user.

Neil
