How do I remove the bar in the bottom with "copyright ... Terms of use Privacy Statment" ?

This is going to depend to some extent on which skin you are using, but generally you need to edit the skin.ascx file. Find this near the bottom: <dnn:COPYRIGHT runat="server" id="dnnCOPYRIGHT" /> and remove it (everything between and including the < and > symbols).  In it's place, just put a blank space. Same thing for the TERMS and PRIVACY skin objects. Duh, save a copy of the ascx file before you make any edits, just in case you delete a TD and it blows up.

Personally, I start out each new site with a new skin. KISS principle... HTML tabled layout and just make sure you have at least the [MENU] and [LOGIN] tokens in there. Then you just add the tokens needed and maybe tweak them with CSS or XML.
