Last Thursday I upgraded a site to 4.9.4.  It installed successfully with no problems.  I've checked the site daily since, and there were no problems. Today I was on the site to update some information..no big deal.  I logged off went back to the site to check the link I made...stilll no problems.  I went back to the site after lunch only to get an error message saying it couldn't connect to the sql server. Since then I have received errors saying that it timed out due the server being busy, and now I'm getting the 'site' down error page that's displayed when updating. I put a index.html file in the root with a javascript re-direct to the dotnetnuke folder and the web.config file.  I've gone thru the web.config file multiple times now and don't see anything wrong.  The site is hosted by GoDaddy.  Why would the upgrade work for almost five days and then go south?  Any ideas?

Make sure your event log is nice and clear - you can google methods of manually clearing it out.
Otherwise suggest you contact GoDaddy who's probably hiding somewhere up North - or make life easier on yourself and consider going away from the Daddy,

Cheers

I hit the site daily and check the event log to make sure nothing is wrong and generally clear it.  Can't move from GoDaddy as it's a non-profits site that asked me to take it on after the previous web-master quit and they've paid for three more years.  (I almost quit when I found to make the simple changes they wanted required me to edit 30 pages!) That's why I converted to DNN.

Now the magic part...after posting my original question, I went back to the site to see what error message it might be displaying currently  and the site is up! I've got to put the crosshairs on GoDaddy.  I think it was something with their sql server, but I don't understand why the various error messages?   At least the other hosting sites I deal with will send you a message or appology if they have problems.

you may confgure custom error pages, in this case it really sounds like an issue to connect to sql server.
