I added a SSL cert to the site via IIS.

Went into the Admin/Site Settings/SSL Settings and check the box to have SSL enabled.

As soon as I saved the page, the site errored. The event log recorded this: 'Membership credential verification failed.'

I updated the version of the site about a week ago. I've double checked the machine validation key and it is the same as the one in the old web.config. If it weren't the same, I don't think I could have logged into the system in the first place.

When you check the box to enable SSL, what does that do? Is it simply changing a bit in the database?

It saves the fact that you want the page secured in the database and then on render it will redirect you from http:// to https:// so the page is secure.

I believe it is the isSecure column in the Tabs table.
