I upgrade my production site to 5.1.4 from 4.9.4 a few weeks ago and I'm having a HUGE problem with the security settings.  When I go to the settings page for modules or pages the check boxes for role permissions are always blank.  I can not see what the permissions are nor can I change the permissions to something.  I opened a thread about this and got a few ideas from the DNN folks, but they haven't replied for almost a week now so I think they are out of ideas (the didn't say so but the posts went from at least one/day to none since last week).

So I'm starting to thing I'm hosed with the whole permissions issue in 5.1.4 and wondering if there is a way to revert back to 4.9.4.  I have a backup but it is two weeks old so I will lose everything that happened in those two weeks which is not a good option.  Any ideas?

  • there is no downgrade support, i.e. this is definately no option
  • I haven't heared of any user with the same problem, nor have I noticed it on my test installs, but I haven't tried any DNN4 upgrades yet
  • are you using CE or PE? do you get new records in pagepermissions or modulepermissions table?

I've finally found the error, but I don't know where to look to see what the script is doing.

00:00:31.556 -   Updating Config Files: 05.01.00 Error!

Any idea where I can look to see what that is actually doing to hopefully find out why things aren't working?

I would start by comparing the RELEASE.CONFIG file to your current WEB.CONFIG file, see if you notice any major differences or missing pieces.
