We are running 4.9.5 and recently our network team ran IBM's AppScan on it.   There is one issue I can't  figure out.

On our login page, we use the account login module.  That is the only module on the page.

This is the error that AppScan found.

Total of 5 security issues in this URL
[1 of 5] Session Identifier Not Updated
Severity: High
Test Type: Application
Vulnerable URL: https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/Login/tabid/261/Default.aspx(Path: )
Remediation Tasks: Do not accept externally created session identifiers

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chad

Chad,

please send any security issues you want to discuss to security@dotnetnuke.com, we prefer to not publically discuss them until we can validate and provide fixes for them if necessary.

That said, we don't use sessions in dotnetnuke or session identifiers. We utilise forms authentications cookies, which are both encrypted and tamperproof, and the login module does not accept externally created ones - they must be created by the application itself as the encryption keys are specific and unique to each DotNetNuke install. To me this looks like a false positive, which is quite common with automated scanning tools.
