Has anyone noticed that when you delete a user in the users module the user still stays in the database.  The only thing that appears to get deleted is the records in the userrole table.   So I happened to enter another user with the same user name as one I had deleted and when I pull up his profile all the old information was there from the user I had deleted.   Is the moral of this, don't delete users?  Would appreciate any insight on this

the new feature in DNN 4.9 and 5.1 is called "softdelete". User records are not deleted, but marked as "deleted". There are still some caveats to be fixed around this feature, like undelete or admin option to hard delete users.

Thanks for the response.  I see the deleted field in the dbo.users table but it is not marked as deleted.  It is somewhat confusing as there are multiple tables . user and aspnet_user, user_profile, aspnet_membership.   All these still have the records in it .   With the current release it appears that it is best not to delete at all or you will get very strange results if a member registeres with the same username.  Please let me know if I'm looking at this incorrectly.  Thanks.

I admin a site with unique email addresses and allow useres to delete their own accounts. Once they did that they cannot reregister again. How can I provide a "hard delete" of the user's data?

this seems a right mess!

I've been deleting users to tidy up and then I needed to test the Data Springs user import module as we have 600 users to import.

I was wondering why I was getting key errors all the time and not being able to test!

Where exactly can I do a HARD delete then?  Why implement this without giving the option to delete?
