I've just rebuilt an asp site on DNN and I'm using the "HumanFriendly" setting in the URLRewriter to get URLs like "http://www.domain.com/TabPath/TabName.aspx". This is all good.

The problem is that Google sees all my pages as 302 temporary redirects, which it does not index (why index a page if it's going to move). I even created a custom redirect page to forward a number of URLs from my old site to new corresponding DNN pages and those are successfully seen as 301 redirects and indexed.

I've tested Googlebot and it reads all forms of DNN urls

   /Default.asp?tabid=xxx
   /tabid/xxx/Default.aspx
   /TabPath/TabName.aspx

with 302 headers.

Is this a function of the URLRewriter? Can it be changed?

  • which DNN version?
  • there should be no 302 for  /TabPath/TabName.aspx
  • did you provide sitemap to google?

DNN 4.09.02
I did provide a sitemap to Google

Additional testing leads me to believe the issue is with the Active Directory Authentication Provider. I'm using integrated AD authentication so users can be logged in automatically for editing and access. /DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx is set to integrated Windows login and it then forwards requests with a 302 (WindowsSignin.aspx is not permanently redirected, it is just forwarding a request). Turning off Active Directory Authentication proves my theory, google now gets a 200 status code.

So, is there any way to change this behavior, through code changes to WindowsSignin.aspx or an application-level adjustment, so that this will get a 200 status code?

I'm using version 1.00.06 of the Active Directory provider.

Ive got a similar problem  using dnn 05.01.04 (3) and using active directory 5.02

people seem to get 302 ( ie  ,chrome and firefox )

what ive seem to isolate is that if people come to the site the very 1st time they seem to be in an endless loop due to cookie misconfig.

i dont have the knowledge to fix this problem. and im hoping its somehow related to your problem :)

I have the same problem with 5.2.2 and once i have disabled the AD Authentication provider it works fine, but this is not possible as we are using the website also as intranet. did anyone found a workaround here? Thanks, Antonis
