I needed a user directory for my portal www.1hag.dk, so i googled it and found this: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/112/threadid/158079/scope/posts/threadpage/1/Default.aspx

I downloaded it from: http://www.codeplex.com/userdirectory

I went to my portal and installed it, the installation was a success according to the info at the bottom of the page, so i thought id go to my portals frontpage and then i got the below error thrown in my face, which means it obviously doesnt work, but how do i remove it now that i cant access my portal anymore??

My portal is 4.8.4 i think, cant really chk as i cant access the site because of that module messing it up.

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Did you install Version 1.0.3, cause the other one is for .Net 3.5 (DNN5) only?

remove the associated dll from /bin/ or delete /app_code/userdirectory/ folder and associated subdirectory entry in your web.config file)

Being under massive timepressure i took my chances and fiddled with it...

My goal was to delet anything that referred or was part of the Eforrity User Directory module.
In the module installer package i found a file called eforrity.UserDirectory.dnn which i opend in notepad and it contains what looks like an installation sequence.

It shows some basic info like the modules "FriendlyName" which is pretty handy for looking up db table entries.

First i opened the ftp entry ive got to my hosting service and manually deleted any folder containing "UserDirectory" and/or "Effority" in it, i believe there were a folder under "DesktopModules", also i think there was one in the root as well, i can hardly remember, but there were 3 or 4 total.

In the WebConfig file in the root there was an entry made by the module, i opend the file with MS ExpressionWeb and serched for "UserDirectory", then i deleted the entry.

Then using MS SQL server 2008 i went into the database and in the "DesktopModules" table and the "Modules" table i removed an entry from each which had the "FriendlyName" of the module.

After that the site was up and running again.
