I'm not necessarily looking for the answer, but where to find the information.

I have a community portal, which has a pretty good base for a small community and I want to rebuild it in DNN.

I want to build the site in a temporary location, with the old site still available.  When the site is done, I want to then point the url to the DNN files.

Is there a specific section of the documentation that I can look at to build the plan to do this?

I'd also like to export all the users from my old site into the new one so people wouldn't have to reregister.

Once the new site is running, I'll use it as a template to expand to other communities.

Is this something that is feasible?

Thanks in advance.

  • you can setup DotNetNuke on one web site and lateron publish it to another one, the only requirement is adding the target domain as additonal portal alias in Host Portals, when entered your portal (and use same domain relative path!)
  • AFAIK, this isn't covered by current documentation
  • to import users from another app, export in csv format and use a 4rd party module like BulkUserImport from PHD (costs 20+USD) to import users into DNN. Make sure, passwords do match DNN requirements (min length 7 characters, if not manually adopted)
  • use create template option in Host Portals to reuse pages for a new site.
