Hi there, i had my DNN installation working perfectly on webhost4life and due to expansion we moved to another company based in the UK. I exported the DB and re impoted it into MSSQL 2008 and then uploaded all of the files. i changed the web.config fileto point at mynew DB however my site wont let me see anything. i just get a 500 - internal server error message. Can anybody shed some light on this ? or ways to get around it?

Regards

Jeremy

  • has the installation directory site properly been configured as IIS web site and ASP.Net 2.0 installed?
  • is the DNS domain address pointing to the new server?
  • is a plain helloworld.html and helloworld.aspx displayed when placed inside the root folder?

Hi there,

I managed to get it sorted. it turned out that IIS was set wrong, for anyone else that is having problems IIS needs to be set to classic mode. As soon as i did that web pages popped up.

I need to ask though, althought i have copied the DB and the webpages, however when i go to the website it now comes up with install/installationwizard.aspx and wants me to install DNN again, how can i get around this so i can just revert to my old web site?

  • DNN does not require the app pool in classic mode, DNN 4.9.0 and above do support integrated mode, but the web.config needs to be properly adopted - ideally automatically by upgrading to latest version, otherwise you need to adopt web.config manually
  • if the install wizard shows up, most likely there is a connection issue to the database. make sure the connection string and permissions are properly setup.

i assume from connetion string you mean in the web.config file, i have changed both of these and they are correct. I am not using the latest version of DNN i just need to get my current version up and going first. What permissions do i need to set? where would i find these?
