I have a domain such as www.domain.com that I want to install DNN on. The site itself will not use DNN for content, but I will have a subdomain www.domain.com/forum where I want to install a DNN forum. I'm not sure if this should be setup as a Parent or a Child Portal? I have a specific domain name for it, but I'm using a subdomain for the DNN functionality. Any advice? Thanks!

you can dump the dnn install files in domain.com/forum, and then in IIS you can set forum as a virtual directory so that the DNN instance is separate from the root domain.

you would then go to admin -> site settings -> Advanced settings -> Portal aliases and add domain.com/forum.

don't forget to set "/forum" as a virtual directory in IIS.

just to make clear, you need to create a parent portal, even if installing in a virtual directory.

Child portals are dnn portals, installed in a subfolder of another portal within the same DNN installation.
