Hi there!

Currently I am running DNN 4.09 on one server and MSSQL 2005 on another machine.

I would like to freshly install DNN 5.x on a new Win2008R2 and would also like to use SQL2008 along with it.
What is the best way to make sure that I can get all my settings (portals) and user-accounts across to the new installation?
Sorry for probably asking an obvious question but I had no luck finding a useful thread for this subject in the forum.

Thanks for helping me out here!

Best regards,

Tillman

Tillman,

you should be able to upgrade SQL Server in place or move the database by backup and restore, for DotNetNuke always perform an upgrade, moving settings is not sufficient.

Hi Stefan,

I appreciate you getting back to me on this issue.

So I will backup the SQL2005 DNN DB and will restore it on the new SQL2008 server then (upgraded hardware as well).

Since we want to move our existing DNN 4.09 installation which is running on W2003 to another box running W2008R2 I would need some quick how-to guide on how to perform this "relocation".
Should I perform an in-place upgrade to 5.x on the old server first?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,

Tillman

I'd move the site to the new server and upgrade afterwards, in this case you may still have the old site running until the new location is finished, but there is not really a difference which order you choose. Ensure the site working after each step.

Well that is excatly my point! :-)

How do I move the site to another server? Shall I simply copy the site's folder to the IIS of the new server? I am not assuming that this will work right away because currently it's running on W2003 IIS6 and obviously W2008 uses II7.

Any advice on the procedure?

Best regards,

Tillman
