Hello,

I use DNN 4.9.

How to make 2 domains point to one portal in one hosting account? I want in the address bar to stay the domain name it's written (not redirect). I tried many things but it's only redirecting me or for the second domain it shows only the default DNN Empty template.

DNS settings for both domains are OK. They point correctly to the site.

I log as Host, and go to Host Portals. The first domain is the installation domain it's pointing to correct place. For the second (new) one I create a parent portal, for settings:

Home Directory - don't change anything

Template - choose DotNetNuke (otherwise it don't allow me to stay Not Specified).

I also have settings for domains in the Hosting control panel. There are 2 settings:

Folder in your Hosting Space:

domain1 -> \domain1\wwwroot\DotNetNuke

domain2 -> \domain1\wwwroot\DotNetNuke

Redirection to URL - doesn't work,

I found some solution, but it's not DNN solution. It's ASP.net solution which I don't like, because it's nothing to do with Portals (Parent Portals) and site administration.

In the domain2.com in default.aspx i put some code:

<frameset rows="100%">
<frame src="http://www.domain1.com/dotnetnuke" scrolling="yes" noresize name="uniquepage">
</frameset>

It works (domain2.com is in the address bar showing domain1.com DNN site), but i don't like. All friendly links like "/tabid/58/" are not showing on domain2.com.

Please advice how to use 2 different domains with 1 DNN installation / site. I know it's something with Parent Portal but what are the exact steps?

If you want both to point to the same portal, don't create a parent portal, that's a second portal.  You may need to use a URL rewriter like iFinity's to accomplish what you want with the URL displays.

A second portal I understand a second installation of DNN!?

If that's the case it's so stupid, the main idea of DNN is content management, custumization, easy management, portals, and then...a simple thing for a normal site is a HUUGE problem for a DNN one!

I still doubt this is the only solution , please experts, advice....

I had the same requirement of 3 portals points to same installation.

Here how i did

Step 1 .Create 2 Portals . both will be Parent Portals.

2.Create the Virtual directories or websites in the IIS having the Domain name as of yours , Now both the Websites will point to the single Dnn Source Code.

3.Make an entry in the Portal Alias Table for both the Domains.

it is working fine for me.

Hope it helps !
