Two questions:

I inherited support for an existing site and there appears to be multiple modules which are linked together so when you update the master(?) the referencing module content updates as well.  The only place I've been able to find any kind of mechanism like that is when I create a new page and then copy or reference modules from some existing page.  Is that the only way to do it?

Also, I have been asked to make a menu sub-nav option reference the main menu page and I'm not sure how to do that in DNN.

Thanks,

Kristi

More than likely, yes, the "referenced" option is how the modules you were referencing were setup.  Unless the module itself has that kind of support..

As for the menu, it depends.  if you want a sub-menu on all pages, you might look at modifying the skin and adding a second menu skin objectt to handle it.
