This was just brought up to me by a client, but it has been an issue that has kinda nagged at me for a while - is there a timeline / reccomended fix for the default user registration / password system. The problem being that when the user registers or requests their password - it sends back the plain-text info in an email. Ideally, I'd like to see some system / module that would (or have the option to) generate a random password or 'reset link' to the user.  Any thoughts, or is there maybe a 3rd party solution that I'm not aware of?

There are some ways around this, but not always.

For the forgotten password, that is the tricky one. If you disable "Recover Forgotten Passwords" in the web.config, I believe a new random password will be sent.

On the user registration e-mail, you should be able to modify the template and just remove the password from the display.

Fantastic! Thanks for the quick response, Mitch. I was actually just perusing your site about another project I'm working on right now (upgrading a 3.2.2 site to 4.9.5 or 5.2.2   acK!). I'll give these things a shot and see how it turns out!
