We are running DNN v4.9.4 on a web farm with load balancing and have an issue with storing session state.

We are considering moving to storing session state in SQL Server.

Are there any catches/disadvantages/issues we need to be aware of in DNN when using SQL Server Session State?

No, asp.net out-of-state stores work fine in DotNetNuke as asp.net handles all the serialization/deserialization. Note: DotNetNuke doesn't use session variables in either core code or core modules.

I just thought I'd expand here a bit as well, if you are using it within custom modules, keep in mind that Session State being stored in SQL Server can add a lot of additional overhead to the SQL Server box.

You might consider looking at your custom code to try and avoid the use of session if at all possible.
