 Hello,

I've had a lot of trouble with dnn in the past but now (apparently when using windows 7) it's been a nightmare. I've been getting the "site unavailable, comeback later" error a lot and didn't have any idea of why, until I spoke to a dnn guru who's a friend of mine. Apparently, using the express string is a roulette, since u don't know when the application is gonna crash cuz it doesn't connect to the DB. I find this ridicolous cuz the option is there and I never had to create the DB for regular configuration before.

MSG TO DNN DEVELOPERS: IF IT'S NOT RELIABLE, WHY PUT IT THERE????

Last week, it happened to me twice and then I thought it was just the computer or something, but searching on forums I found that it happens a lot. You can understand my frustration, since I went to a client's today to show them my proposal and the damn thing didn't work, it was the worst shame ever. I'd spent the last 2 weeks working on it and it just randomly started to crash with this error. After I got home, it was working fine after a couple of attempts.

I'm seriously thinking on switching to joomla, since I've never heard this type of complaint on the users.

Can someone who has experienced this tell me why the hell this happens so randomly???? one day I can't connect, the other I can (without touching anything on IIS or sql server). My friend told me to create a new db and to backup/restore from the old one, but changing the string to the "not express config" and it should work fine....

Does anyone have another suggestions still using the same DB and string config? or definately DNN express installation simply sucks???

The worst  thing is that the damn message doesn't even give u a hint of the problem. To me, saying

"the site is unavailable, checkback later EQUALS there's something wrong, figure it out or go kill yourself.

 Hi,

I tried to create a database to install the site the regular way, but for some reason SSMS is not letting me connect to it after I try with Sql server authentication. Is there a step on the installation where I should specify that I'll use that or something like that?

this is really frustrating..

Sorry for all your issues. Using express connections string should be reliable, as long as you don't try to attach the file using a different tool like SSMS. If you attach the database in SSMS, you need to provide dbowner permission for the accessiong user specified in the connection string and in most cases, make sure the sql server is configured for remote access. Besides the authentication mode needs to be configured properly (use "mixed", to be able to use sql server accounts). Be aware, that SQL 2000 is no longer supported in DNN 5.2.0 and above.

Thanx for the answer but I'm using sql server 2008 express, which is why i find all these issues so odd. What theory can u offer for this issue to happen randomly???

One day dnn is working fine locally, the other or after reset... it doesn't. No just one site, but all dnn sites.
