Hi All,

I'm hoping that I'm posting this to the correct area ;-)  Maybe somewhat of a Naive question and I believe that I already know the answer to my own question BUT....

When using Multiple Portals in a single DNN installation it is easy enough to find the relationship of one site to another via the IP resolution of the Website?  The reason that I ask is that I'd like to have two business reasonably seperated from one another i.e. making one look independent of the other.  So if I have WebsiteA as a Parent Portal and WebsiteB as a Parent Portal they're still using the same IP to access the site.

If someone really wanted to know if  they were tied together they be able to determine that by the IP's of the two.

Am I incorrect in that assumption?

Thanks All
-Rob

Doing a simple DNS lookup of the sites will reveal that they are on the same IP address, meaning that they are on the same server.  That said, MANY sites are on hosted servers with the same IP addresses and the companies have no connection to each other other.  Hosted sites are very common and wouldn't necessarily reveal they are connected in a business sense.

If you wanted two portals to have different IP addresses, you'd have to setup the IIS host headers so that each separate domain uses a different IP Address.  I've never done this myself, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

As for doing it : you're probably being overly paranoid about people checking up on IP addresses and inferring relationships from that.

If it's really that important you can always physically separate the two installs and host on different servers.
