I have a problem (see Event Log Message below) that happens every time a user registers.
The user sees an exception error after submitting their registration.
Their registration IS entered into the USER table in the database.

I have checked the settings under Host Settings > SMTP Server Settings and they are correct according to my hosting provider - the test send works.

Yet it appears that either the e-mail to the user confirming their registration OR the e-mail to the Admin (who's e-mail address is also correct) is failing.

Any ideas?  See below:

please be aware that sending a mail will use email address of the admin user of your site (specified in site settings). Make sure, this user has permission to send mails from your SMTP server, if no account logi is specified in Host settings for the SMTP server. The account needs to be configured for "relaying". If you are using DNN 5.3 or 5.4, you might need to upgrade due to sender and recipient being mixed up in some cases.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
