I'm obviously not alone on this problem from my research, but here it goes anyway....

why can I NOT get a newsletter to send when using gmail apps email?  I can get the test smtp to go thru, with and without port numbers, but once I try to send a newsletter I get the following error in the event viewer:

InnerException: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.5.1 Authentication Required. Learn more at (just end with "at" - strange...)

any suggestions? 

I'm on version 5.02

Can anyone help me with this - PLEASE!!!! ?

Is this a dnn issue, gmail issue, all of the above, is there a work around?  I've been working on this for pretty much two days with no success other than changing email providers...good times.

test mail is sent using the email address entered above as sender, while newsletter use email address of current user which might not be granted to send. you may enter host email address as from and your email address into Reply To. AFAIK if you login securely to you gmail account, you may use different sender addresses as well, and besides, you should upgrade to a more recent version, where a number of issues are fixed.
