Hi!

Is installing DNN 4.03 at godaddy.com and is struggling to make it work. I upload the install project, create an database and configure web.config. It is installing perfectly but when I tries to access the portal following error occure:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings.GetPortalSettings(Int32 TabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +124
   DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalSettings..ctor(Int32 tabId, PortalAliasInfo objPortalAliasInfo) +82
   DotNetNuke.HttpModules.UrlRewriteModule.OnBeginRequest(Object s, EventArgs e) +3800
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +92
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +64

I have seen many posts about it but no solution. Someone is talking about persmissions to the folder, I cant change that in godaddy right? But still DNN is writing to different folders so that cant be the problem.

I didnt receive this when installing local.

Regards,

Robert

I found some info in GoDaddy FAQ that helped me with that same issue.
It took about 20 minutes or so to take effect.

From GoDaddy website:

To Set Up Dot Net Nuke 4.0 (DNN) on Your Web Site:

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Under the Hosting & Email section, select Hosting Account List.
  3. Next to the hosting account you want to modify, click Open.
  4. Under the Content section of the Hosting Manager, click the Value Application icon.
  5. Read through the disclaimer and click Accept on the Value Application Disclaimer page.
  6. Click Install next to DotNetNuke.
  7. Enter the name of the virtual directory under which DotNetNuke will run. (Note: I had to make up a new directory name rather than what I had been using when trying to set up before. )
  8. Click Install.

I hope this works on your site too. I know how frustrating it has been for you.
