Hi,

I tried moving an existing site under the following conditions.

-Archived existing DNN installation
-Exported the IIS configuration
-Moved archive to new server.
-Imported the IIS Configuration
-Server has same OS, same patch level, same IP address
-SQL server it connects to is the same.  I even tried using the same database.

Site renders home page.  Attempt to log into the site silently fails.  I'm kicked back to the home page as if I never logged in.
The dnn log in the database shows me logging in.  No errors.
-No IIS errors
-No errors of any kind that I can find.

I *just* need to get the old site up.  Nothing else.   I can move much more complicated CMS-based applications in Linux with ease.  Why is this so difficult?

Are you attempting to login from the new server? Is there a chance that the cookies on that machine are blocked due to security settings on the server?

Not logging in/testing on the server hosting the DNN installation. I see how that scenario could cause the problem, but that's not it. I tried remotely and locally. same result same domain address too. Browser cache clears when I close the browser. I even restart IIS and recycle the asp instance. Same problem. The biggest issue for me is there is practically no logging. I have no way to get a blow-by-blow of the parts of the software stack. IIS doesn't log beyond their non-standard stats and the Application log is simultaneously cruel, largely cryptic and primitive. Is there a recommended portal export strategy? The old site is 4.09.xx. I'd like to use DNN version 5.xx.yy on the new hardware. Basically then, is the portal export/import version agnostic?

which .Net version is running on your new site - make sure, it uses .Net 3.51. Upgrade is definitely the better way to go, unless you are doing a relaunch.
