I have a functioning DotNetNuke 5.06 environment (Windows 2008 R2/IIS7  -  Windows 2008 R2/SQL 2008 R2).

What I'd like to do is update the SQL connection strings in the web.config file to use an SQL connection alias rather than needing to specify the actual database server name. I have created an alias using cliconfg.exe, and have tested the alias using a UDL file and the credentials of my DNN SQL user account. However, when I replace the server name in the connection string with the alias and restart the website I get the 'unavailable come back later" error. Am I doing something wrong, or are SQL connection aliases not supported by DotNetNuke in this context?

Any suggestions appreciated.....

AFAIK connection string aliases are currently not supported by DNN
