I have one main website.  What my marketing team wants to do is to basically duplicate that site (as a child site with a subdomain).  The only difference would be that on the home page I would be adding a module so we can sell banner ads.  So the child portal will look and act exactly like the main site (all the links will link to the main site, not the pages on the child portal), except it'll have that extra banner ad.

I know for my main site I've created a template and I can use that when I go to create my child site, but when I do that, all the links will point to the child site and I want them to point to the main site.  I also want to be able to when someone makes an admin change on the homepage of the main site, that it makes the changes in the child site right away.  Is this possible to do?

I don't see the value in duplicating the site, sorry.

For every different association and dealer that we have, we want the home page of our site to look different (just that small banner).  So if someone uses a banner somewhere else and links to the child site, they can see the difference.

Or is it easier to just create a new page that is exactly like the home page?

Okay, new and easier plan.  I just added a page to my site and made it not visible in the menu.  I referenced ALL the modules from my home page so that way when the home page is updated, this new page is updated at the same time.  In the new page i just added it's own module for the banner ad.  This solved all my problems and was MUCH easier than recreating another site!  Thanks much!!!

You could do this:
- create a dealer home page "Master" with all the necessary content and modules.
- to create dealers landing pages copy the "Master" page and make sure you reference the modules you want to display on all of them
- add banner or txt/html module with the banner
This way you will end up with delares pages sharing "refernced" modules and additional unique content.

In theory it would be possible to achieve what you are after using localisation settings as well but I feel this would be far to complex for what you need.
