I see how you export a portal template based on an existing portal. I've searched through the forums but haven't seen how you add an exported template to be available in the drop down list when using the wizard to create a new portal based on the template.

So, I have two questions:

1. How do I add an exported template to the Wizard list as an additional portal template?

2. Can I export a portal template from one DNN installation (database 1) and import it to a second DNN installation (database 2)?  This would work very nice in that I have 2 databases available with my hosting package and would like to use one for development and the second for production.

3. What are the steps necessary to import the template and in what order?

Thanks for your help! The forums have been a great learning tool.

take a look at the DotNetNuke Portal Template.pdf doc in the documentation download, it should answer all your template related questions.

I took a look at the document.

If I export a template file and a template.resource file. I should be able to take those files and copy them to any default portal application subdirectory (Portals\_default) and the template would be available in the Wizard. Is this correct?

I read an earlier post where someone mentioned that any modules that are used in the portal that was exported need to be installed prior to creating a new portal using the template. Is this correct?

One last question, there is an option to include the content of all modules. If there is a photo gallery module that supports the new Import/Export capabilities (using IPortable), does this mean that it will copy all images and associated text into the template.resources file?

I really appreciate your help.

it depends on the module, what it is going to include into the template, please ask the developer.
