This is just a community announcement of a bug in 5.06.

Scenario:  On my menus, I don't like having "Admin" nor "Host" options.  I like clean menus (for myself and my clients) even while logged in.  Therefore, if I or my clients need to access "Host" or "Admin" pages, we use the two links up in the ribbon bar.

In order to prevent both from showing, I simply go to the Admin and Host pages, edit page settings and uncheck "Show in Menu".  This has always worked fine and still works great for both pages in 5.06 with one exception.  When I do this on the "Host" page, the IsVisible column in the Tabs table is set to "0" appropriately.  However, the PortalID column is set to the current PortalID thus replacing the NULL value.  This assigns the Host page as a tab of the current portal with the following repercussions:

  1. Because the host page is set to the current portal, the page is no longer accessible to any other portal
  2. The "Host" link in the ribbon bar no longer functions and returns the user to the current page
  3. If the URL is typed manually (i.e. ~/default.aspx?tabId=7) then the Host page is shown, however none of its children are present since all of their PortalID's are still NULL.  Therefore, to reach each page, the TabID querystring must be typed manually

The fix was simply to go back and manually set the PortalID in for TabID 7 to NULL in the database.  Then, recycle the IIS process so the cache was cleared.

This isn't a critical bug, but a little frustrating on the initial set up.

Joshua, this is a known bug, which will be fixed in a future version. nb: For your use case, you might even want to check out free advanced ControlPanel from www.oliverhine.com, it provides admin and host dropdown menu directly in the control panel and has a number of other nice features ;)

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold
