I have created several background tasks and added them the the DNN Schedule successfully.  Everything was working perfectly for months.

As my site gets more data, some of the background tasks are taking longer to complete.  It appears that after running around 20 seconds, the thread running the scheduled task is automatically aborted, with Reason:System.Threading.ThreadAbortException: Thread was being aborted.

Is this maximum thread life of a Scheduled task a feature?  Can it be configured to run longer?  Should I use some other mechanisim to launch long (> 20 seconds cpu)  running tasks?

Thanks

You might want to check your IIS settings, It sounds like IIS might be recycling the app pool while the schedule task is running. As far as I know, there isn't a maximum thread life for a scheduled task item, they should run as long as IIS lets them run. Another thing to check would be, is the scheduler set to run in request method or timer method? if your task(s) don't required HTTP context, then I would run them in timer method. This setting can be found in the host settings under the "Other Settings" section. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Nathan Rover
