Hello everyone,

I'm pretty much a beginner with DNN, started a few days ago. I've been playing around and looking at some pretty good tutorials found on these forums and other websites. But I can't seem to find out nor understand how to either limit the use of the file manager based on security roles. I don't mean completely locking it down so they either see or they don't. I'm talking about limiting what folders users can access and edit based on the roles.

For example I only want admins to see the default portal. And I want users just to be able to see newly created folders inside the file manager.
Not too sure if I'm making myself clear. But any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean

Dean, when you add a folder in DNN in the File Manager, if you select that folder and then move to the bottom of the screen you will find a permissions grid there. Using those permissions you can control who has access to specific folders in the File Manager.

Chris,

When I select a folder in the File Manager, I see nothing at the bottom of the screen. I'm using DNN Community version 5.6.0 if that's of any consquence. Not quite sure if I'm looking at the right place. If needed I could provide a screen shot of the situation.

Thanks,
Dean

Community or Professional you should have a permissions grid below the file manager. Make sure you are in EDIT mode though, not VIEW

Thanks for the help Chris,

The issue was that I was at the page with the File Manager and not looking at the File Manager under the Admin Panal. Whoops. But this brings up another question. do I have to grant all users permission to see the Portal Root folder? I can't seem to figure out how to create a new folder on the same level as the Portal Root. Whenever I try it just creates it inside the Portal Root .

If I can't; the best way to go around doing this would be allow everyone into Portal Root. (after I clean up the folder). And from there create and delegate the control of the folders as need be?

Thanks,
Dean
