Hello,

First post here, I'm here out of frantic desperation.  My question is how or where in the database or in the files would you disable and entire website.

I have had someone, possibly a disgruntle employee, on the website team that has disabled my entire site.  I of course have access to the server, database, and anything else I need.

I am just starting to learn DNN and not familiar enough with the structure of the database and/or files to look to where this person made a change.

No single page on the site works, every page displays the same message and I cannot get to a login screen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  And I have an extensive programming background and database background but most of which resides with MySQL and PHP, I'm a newbie to MS SQL and ASP.

Thanks

what do you mean by disable? There are numerous option to make a site fail to load, one of the most typical might be using an app_offline.aspx file placed in the root of the web site.

There are many ways that an entire site could be disabled - either intentionally or accidentally.

One of the easiest ways (often used to block site access while uploading files for an upgrade) is to place a file named App_Offline.htm in the website root folder. App_Offline.htm can contain any HTML text that would be displayed instead of any of the site's normal pages.

If you are seeing a message and not your usual skin, menu's, etc. I would check for the existance of the App_Offline.htm file and rename it to something else - I usually use Disabled_App_Offline.htm and just leave it in place until needed for the next upgrade.

If on the otherhand you are seeing your usual pages but with errors or the yellow Server Application error screen, please post the entire error message here for us to look at.. Ypu might also try to access the database from outside of DotNetNuke (using a tool like MS SQL Server Management Studio) and inspect the EventLog table for recently logged errors. Most of the error detail is found in the LogProperties column of that table as an XML string.

Appreciate the responses! Thank you for the fast reaction to my questions. It turned out. There was an expiration date on Portal Id 0, this caused everything to be shut down. Oddly enough, I was alerted by some of my other team members that, unbeknownst to me, this was happening every night at midnight. Another problem to look into to see what is causing this change to the database every night adding an expiration date to the main portal. Regards, Brady
