Did a fresh install of 5.6.1. Worked great initially... then the Module Actions menu stopped working! On hover it went into spin mode and wouldn't stop! Removed cookies, cleared the cache and made sure Javascript was enabled on both Chrome, Firefox and IE 8, on two different computers... nothing has worked...

Any ideas would be appreciated,

As long as you're not getting any JavaScript errors, it sounds like the AJAX request is not completing.  This could be due to any number of things.  Have you tried using something like HttpFox or Fiddler to determine the fate of the AJAX requests yet?

Will,

Thanks so much for responding... I was getting desperate.

Turns out that I restored a recent backup, and it solved the problem! I can only imagine that, while doing some maintenance, I must have deleted a file somewhere. I'm good to go now.

I'll remember the tools that you suggest for diagnosing future problems.

Cheers!

Mr. Gaul, I'm glad that you got it working. I'm still having trouble with the same issue (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/404371/scope/posts/Default.aspx). Are you running w/ 5.6.1 now? Was you backup a previous version? If yes to both, how did you upgrade w/out getting this problem? I restored my backup files & DB (DNN 5.6.0). My sites worked fine. Then, I stopped my sites (using my host's control panel) and applied the upgrade files. Next, I restarted my sites and browsed to the main one. That started the DB upgrade. When that finished, I logged in to the main site. Again, when I hover over one of the action menu symbols (triangle) it turns into a spinning wheel. Any suggestions from you, Mr. Strohl, or others would be much appreciated!

Brad,

Sorry to hear that you are having this problem... I know how frustrating it is! Unfortunately, I cannot claim to be any expert, only that I got lucky and seemed to resolve the problem, still without knowing what actually caused it, or what part of what I did actually fixed it!

In my case, I had done a fresh install of 5.6.1, and everything worked fine. I did a few backups and restores just to test out the functionality of my new hosting company (Arvixe). I did make a few other changes (the details of which I cannot recall) and then noticed that the actions menu problem had started.

Interestingly enough, the reason that I resorted to a fresh install (my site is new with only disposable content) was that I had attempted an upgrade from 5.6.0 from files and database restored from my old hosting site. On that upgrade I had some items that failed to install correctly (as reported in the displayed install lines that pass by during the web based portion of the install). I noticed that the actions menu was not working, so assumed that it may have had something to do with the bad install, or missing or corrupted files (I had had some problems getting an error free FTP upload of the upgrade zip file). I also had a few unrelated database problems, so I just decided to delete everything and start over.

I received a lot of suggestions: clear the cache on the DNN site, clear the cache and cookies on your browsers, etc. and reset file privileges on your directories in your hosting site (which actually seems to make good sense, since it seems that a needed file could not be accessed), none of which in my case worked.

So, what was different in the restored files from the installed file, I was never able to determine. My site is up and working, and I am keeping my fingers crossed!

You now know everything that I know, and I wish you the best of luck.

Patrick
