how do page permissions look like (in page settings), which row does display the lock icon? Which DNN version are you running (see Host :: Host Settings)

I am using DNN 5.06.01

All the check boxes are empty.. none have locks, green check marks, or red x's... if i click on a checkbox it only puts a regular checkmark in it... not the normal ones you normally get.. and then i hit update.. but it doesnt save it

most likely, the admin role and registered users role are not properly specified for the site in table portals. please go into the database and enter proper role id's from Roles table into the portals row.

Sorry to say but I have to join in on this slightly old thread, just went through the steps of upgrading to 5.6.1 and now I am unable to set/change any pages permissions.

I've verified that the portals table has an admin role id and an registered user role id that is relevant to the current portal.  I am actually trying to do most of this as the host account.

this may be related to sporadic post back issues I also seem to be facing
