I have a web site... www.site.com ...

I want to have the navigation simple on the front page... Let's call it left or center or right...

Not sure how to explain it, but I guess it's a tree. The menu would have those exact options... left, center, right.

If you choose Left, you get a menu that is specific to the left (but with options to go to the center or right).
If you choose Center, you get a menu that is specific to the center (but with options to go to the left or right)
If you choose Right, you get a menu that is specific to the right (but with options to go to the left or right).

I guess another way to think about it, is that I want 3 types of users for the site, all three have their own menus (but they can always choose to go to the other user's areas and see their menu)...

How would one set this up in DNN 4.0? I'd rather keep the site using the www and not break it into "left.site.com" "center.site.com" and "right.site.com", all with links from www.site.com.

Regards,

Chuck

I would create 4 skins
1 for the home page
3 with the the root of the menu set to the three different root pages, and links to the two other main pages.
Or use the menu showing the rootpages and only the subpages of the currently selected Roottab.
(and just change the location of the menu in the skin)

Okay, so, just to clarify...

1. I create 4 skins... 1 skin, is just simple and has only the links to 3 other skins.
2. The 3 skins only have a menu for their  navigation. But in the skin template, I hard-code the links (icons or whatever) to the remaining two skins.
3. On each specific skin, I set the menu root to be the root of that branch of the menu.

If correct, how do I do step #3 exactly? Where?

You also said, the "Or" statement... How would I actually do that? Is there a document outlining this? Sounds like it's a setting in the skin to default and open a menu item.

Chuck

Let's say this is your menu structure

Main01
    Main01a
    Main01b
    Main01c
Main02
    Main02a
    Main02b
Main03

1. Create as skin with the menu startlevel set to the root and  display no childeren (will show Main01, 02 & 03)
2. Create 3 other skins with the menu startlevel set to main01, main02 and main03. This menu can show the childern of the mainpage
3. Add hardcoded links to the other two pages to the skin
(this is not a very clean solution but works see the "OR" part)

To be honest I (almost) never use the SolpartMenu, but I don't think it's possible to set the menu's roottab.
I did this kid of stuff with HouseMenu.

OR
I think this part of my previous post could be done with Inventua Sidemenu (a vertical menu) with the  the Source set to [root page] and the "Current sub-tree only" option set to true
Sorry, I have no time to test now.
Hope this will help you.
