I am trying to implement a newsroom, similar to the ones at:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/NewsRoom/tabid/703/Default.aspx
http://www.elevenwireless.com/Company/Newsroom/tabid/57/Default.aspx

(well, mostly the second one).

I would like to be able to post both press releases (my news, on my site) and news (links to other sites).  So, it is kind of like the announcements module, but with categories, and archive, and lead-in (summary) text with "read more..." links.

It would also be great if there was a smaller module that would just list dates/titles with a link to the full newsroom (see the elevenwireless homepage).

Any thoughts?

Has nobody else created a newsroom like this?  It seems like it would be so simple... yet I can't figure it out.  Is there an addon module I need to buy to do this?

I want to do this exact thing.

Plus, I'd like to have multiple categories of news on my site.  On a main News page, all of the news titles/summaries/dates should be listed.  On individual areas of the site (a department, for example), their specific news could show up in a simple "latest news" list.

I want to do this with events, too.  I did this with a custom CMS application I built, but I really want to use DNN instead of continuing as a lone ranger.  Any help is appreciated.

There are at least two third-party modules that are commonly recommended for this kind of functionality, one of which is commercial and one of which is free:

  • Commercial: Scott McCulloch's News Articles module, available from http://www.ventrian.com/ - I use this myself for a news page and a blog on my site and highly recommend it (along with Scott's other modules and his Friendly URL rewriter).
  • Free: Efficion Consulting's Articles module, from http://www.efficionconsulting.com/

Both have support for categories. I am less familiar with Efficion's module but Scott's one offers easy visual customisation through templates, includes archive and "latest articles" modules, and allows you to have instances that are filtered by category, so you could have a main page with all the news and then have pages that display only one of the categories.
