I've noticed that if I FTP files with an FTP client to a directory on my DNN install, that they don't show up in DNN when I'm trying to access them. Example is I upload an image via FTP to a directory \Images\ and if I click the Insert Image icon in the HTML editor inside an HTML module and try to navigate to the image, it's not listed in the directory. Sometimes I have to exit out of the module and open File Manager from Admin and do a refresh on the directory and that will fix it. Other times refreshing in File Manager does NOT fix it and the only way I've seen to get 100% results is to upload files and create directories from within File Manager. This is ok, but you are limited to uploading single files and not multiples. Is there a better way?

When you look in File Manager, you are viewing a report from DNN tables, not a read from disk. Because you uploaded the files outside of DNN input structure, the files were not recorded in the table.

However, you can force a disk read and write the new files to the db table from file manager. On upper right, check the "recursive" checkbox and then run the "Synchronize" command next to it, while you have the portal root selected/displayed. After the page refreshes, navigate to the appropriate folder/s and you should see all the files that you uploaded.

if you upload files into existing directories and turn of "Auto File Sync" sync in Host Settings, your files will show up automatically.
