DNN 5.6.2 has been announced to be the last regular VB version, while DNN 6.0 is announced for end of 2nd quarter 2011.

C# and vb both utilize the same common language runtime - as such there is no real speed difference to be had working in either language. Each language does generate slightly different clr code at times due to different language structures - and this can lead to slightly different execution speeds of certain instructions - but in reality - since once you get down to it - most of what is happening in a system like dnn is calls down into the api library.

As for what is going on with dnn 6.0 - the recent ctp 2 blog is a good place to start
