Are DNN staff aware that the Project Release Tracker doesn't track?
I've been waiting for modules that have been in the tracker for quite some time now and check the tracker regularly to see whether they have passed through yet and been released.
While working on a live site today I noticed in Module Definitions that all the modules currently in the tracker have passed through and been released some as long ago as 10 days.
Am I stupid to use the "Project Release Tracker" to keep abreast of the status of new "Project Releases"?
Another problem which doesn't help this situation is that only some of my DNN sites show the "Upgrade?" column in Module Definitions, "Check For Upgrades?" is checked in Host Settings, in fact the whole Module Definitions module is quite different in the same versions of DNN (05.06.03 (45)).
So to summarise:
1, Why doesn't the tracker track? How should I check to see the status of new module releases?
2, Would it not be possible to make a blog entry, many don't don't get this luxury, as soon as a Module passes through the tracker (AND update the tracker)?
3, How can I get ALL my sites Module Definition pages to look the same? I want to see the text at the top (missing in some installs of the same DNN version), the "Find available language packs:" drop down to be displayed (missing in some installs of the same DNN version) and how do I get the Upgrade column to show (missing in some installs of the same DNN version)? Also on the sites that don't show the additional details if I refresh the module I get:
An error has occurred.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.ArrayList' to type 'DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalInfo'. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.ArrayList' to type 'DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalInfo'. at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.DataCache.GetCachedData[TObject](CacheItemArgs cacheItemArgs, CacheItemExpiredCallback cacheItemExpired, Boolean storeInDictionary) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.DataCache.GetCachedData[TObject](CacheItemArgs cacheItemArgs, CacheItemExpiredCallback cacheItemExpired) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.CBO.GetCachedObject[TObject](CacheItemArgs cacheItemArgs, CacheItemExpiredCallback cacheItemExpired) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.GetPortal(Int32 PortalId, String CultureCode) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Portals.PortalController.GetPortal(Int32 PortalId) at DotNetNuke.Services.ModuleCache.FileProvider.GetCacheFolder(Int32 portalId) at DotNetNuke.Services.ModuleCache.FileProvider.Remove(Int32 tabModuleId) at DotNetNuke.Entities.Modules.ModuleController.SynchronizeModule(Int32 moduleID) at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.ActionManager.ClearCache(ModuleAction Command) at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.ActionManager.ProcessAction(ModuleAction action) at DotNetNuke.UI.Containers.ActionBase.ProcessAction(String ActionID) at DotNetNuke.UI.WebControls.SolPartActions.ctlActions_MenuClick(NavigationEventArgs args) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---
Have a look at the current Project Tracker when this was written. There are SIX modules that have been released that are still showing as not having passed through the tracker and changed to "Completed" status!
I'd grateful for any help anyone can offer regarding this. Thank You.

Hi Paul,

So, Here's the answer to your question number 1.

The tracker is a manual tracking tool, ie. it doesn't actually do anything except provide a tool for the people involved to understand what they need to do, and a place where they can mark that they've completed their tasks.  After a module passes the testing phase, there are 2 'steps' remaining, the release of the module (which means the package is marked as an official release on codeplex and the DNN data store is updated to indicate the new version is available which triggers the "Update" notifier.  The last step is for the project lead to publicize the new release, by submitting forum announcements and a blog post telling everyone the new version is available and describe the fixes/features so the community can decide if they are interested in upgrading.

So, the situation you are seeing in the tracker is accurate, the module have passed tested and been 'released' by a Release Manager, but the project leads have either not submitted forum announcements and/or blog, or it's possible the project lead did that but has not gone back to the Release Tracker to 'check off' those tasks which would close the process on that module and it would then be removed from the tracker list.

If you click on a project in the Tracker to see the details, you'll see that those modules are in the "Release Validation & Promotion" phase, which means the module has been release and is available to download/install. On the right side, you'll see the tasks required as exit criteria for that final step and you'll see that the Project Lead (specified as [Lead]) has not completed the remaining steps.
