I am looking at speeding up my new DNN installation (http://www.thisiscake.co.uk), it's on shared hosting at 123reg.co.uk (cheap) but has load speeds of up to 12 seconds :(

YSlow says I have issues with css and js on the homepage (19 http requests) I have looked into ways of combining the css (I tried pageblaster free but it doesn't seem to have done anything but maybe I haven't set it up right?)

I found a program called CSS Mixer (http://cssmixer.codeplex.com) that will find all of the css files in my site folders and combine them into one but I dont know what to do next, presumably I need to manually change the css references in each of the modules skins etc but how do I do this?

I imagine this post seems like I dont know what I'm talking about, the fact is I don't.... HELP!

I think that you are trying to solve the wrong problem.

It looks to me that your site has the classic start-up issue that is common to ASP.NET sites. Namely that your lightly used site gets unloaded and then you see the longer load times when you first visit it.

This can be "solved" with a keep-alive service, of which there are many (some free). Do that first, then visit Mitchel Sellers' blog (mitchelsellers.com) and read about configuing DotNetNuke for best performance.
