Regarding this security issue, will there be a fix released for the 5.x series fo DNN, or will those of us on the 5.x versions be forced to upgrade to 6.0.1+? I ask this because upgrading to 6.0.1 breaks custom authentication that we've written as well as our custom navigation and skinning and will take hundreds of hours to fix. The total replacement of all the previous code makes implementing the old changes a nightmare for a site that we desire no new functionality for. If a 5.6.4 or 5.7.0 or whatever 5.x version necessary were released, those of us with 5.x sites that do not need to otherwise switch to 6.0.1+ would be saved loads of time not having to fix our custom pieces that aren't broken. Alternatively, if the fix for 5.6.3 is something that a walkthrough can be written for, we could just implement that fix ourselves as needed.

My apologies, I thought I had blogged about this but I've just checked and have an unpublished blog in livewriter.

In short though, the answer is yes there will be a 5.6.4 that contains this fix. We are supporting the 5.x branch for security issues for 1 year, and typically we would have created a 5.6.4 at the time of the 6.0.1 release to address this - however due to timing and resourcing issues (and a few non-security items with 5.6.3), as well as the minor nature of the issue, we did not do this but instead plan to have a 5.6.4 with the 6.0.2 release. Note: this is not a decision we made lightly and we hope to always have a 5.x release with the 6.x branch (for the year supported) for any security issues.

I will tidy up the blog post and publish in the morning.

That is excellent news. Please let me know when that blog entry is ready for viewing and, if you have a time in mind, when we could expect 5.6.4 to be released.

There is still an unresolved issue here. The previously mentioned blog still hasn't been posted and I haven't been told anything regarding ap ossible ETA for 5.6.4
