I have a problem with DNN and Godaddy.

When I try to delete a portal I get:
Error: Portals is currently unavailable.DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Access to the path 'd:\hosting\gahart\_db_backups' is denied. ---> System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'd:\hosting\gahart\_db_backups' is denied.

The directory _db_backups is a special folder where manual backups are stored. Odd that DNN has a problem with this folder because I use FileZilla and I can read/write/delete the contents of this folder just fine. I surely hope DNN would not delete my backups when I delete a portal. I guess that would be really cleaning things up! What I cannot do is change the permissions/rename/delete this special folder.

Seems this problem is not unique to DNN, mojoPortal had a problem with this folder and corrected it.

I wonder why not have some access to a directory in the root directory would prevent DNN from deleting a portal? The path to the files are stored in the database, so why try to read everything in the root directory?

This seems to be a well know problem with Godaddy and DNN.

Any suggestion on how to manually delete a portal?

Thanks,
Greg Hart

Yeah if you plan on using DNN leave godaddy. I have been doing a few co-located on 1and1.com they aren't too bad and less restrictions. We used GoDaddy for years and well I couldn't take it anymore switched to 1 and 1 and no major issues. Hope that helps.

Thank you,
