I'm missing some basic points about how the sitemap is generated in DNN. Specifically....

I see the Sitemap Admin page. This shows /sitemap.aspx as the URL. I was under the impression that sitemap.xml was something is a standard (not .aspx) and search engines typically looked there (I know this can be configured). Why is sitemap.aspx used rather than sitemap.xml and can this be changed.

The following is stated in http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/F...:
"Standard DNN Sitemap list only the links of the pages contained in DNN menu and not the dynamic pages. If you are using dynamic content (like Ventrian property agent module) you are no able to listing all content with standard DNN sitemap!"

What am I missing? Isn't that against the whole intent of a sitemap, namely to reference all pages (dynamic or otherwise)?

Finally, when click on the link in the Sitemap Admin page I see a generated sitemap.aspx file that was last update in August. I even make some changes to the priorites, save, etc - but still see an old version.

How do I generate a complete sitemap (including dynamic pages) that is up to date? This seems like a simple issue (generate a sitemap) that appears somewhat complicated.

Thanks.

Mark

No thoughts on this? I guess I am asking the most basic of questions - how do I generate a sitemap for my site - so hoping someone has some suggestions.

Thanks.

Mark

Hi Mark

I have been using the iFinity sitemap providers which also allow ventrian news articles to be listed.

 http://www.ifinity.com.au/Products/Go...

Bruce also has some seful info if you want to write your own providers and his free download can also include the source.

 Hope this helps.

Mark,

This is a manual process, but works pretty good. You can use a sitemap generator such as http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

Depending on how static your site is, you may not have to change this much, but if you constantly get new information, you may consider updating your sitemap on a regular basis.

iFinity sitemap provider does support ventrian news articles, but not property agent. The source code is available and someone could build a provider for PA, and there has been a lot of talk about it, but I'm not sure if it's ever been completed.
