Hi, I am using DNN 6.00.00 and using Google Chrome for editing the site as was recommended and Morpheus Skin.
Until a few days ago there were only a few problems, none of which were major, but for the last two days, when I try to expand the Root folder in File Manager, it just keeps trying and nothing ever happens.
After trying different browsers, I finally got it to work using Opera, however, other things don't work in Opera so this means keep switching between browsers.
I would be grateful for any advise - I have contacted my Hosting company about upgrading to the latest DNN 6 but am worried about loss of my site and data during an upgrade so would prefer to resolve this issue without upgrading.

I would suggest you make sure you are running the latest version of dnn 6.0.2 -  there are some known problems with the dnn file manager in 6.0.0 - these revolve around scripting issues ... some of which can be rectified by turning off whitespace compression the the hosting performance settings.

You should definitely upgrade your installation. Make sure your hosting provider to do a daily backup of database and file system so you do not have to worry about it. Also make your own backup of the databaseand files before upgrading. It is easiest with a tool such as DotNetPanel .

I also preferred Chrome with DNN tough because Firefox crashed, butnow it is fine to edit with Firefox too.

I recommend NOT transferring files to the website's root folder(wwwroot) is in DNN. Use FTP or DotNetPanel instead.

I had similar problems (if not exactly the same and same results with Opera too), here's how I got it to work for me:

I actually just got it working by going to Host Settings > Advanced > jQuery Settings and then Enable the "Use jQuery Debug Version" then click Update and test the File Manager.

Once I verify that it is working I go back to Host Settings and disable the debug mode and my File Manager continues to work, at least for this afternoon, we'll see tomorrow. :D

Good luck!
