What's the best way to handle the login twice issue?  The site is starting off with www.mysite.com and eventually going to mysite.com.  It's in that switch of course that the second login is required and it's driving the users crazy.  Me too.

Best solution, and the easiest solution would be appreciated.  I understand those can be two different answers.

Thanks,
   Joel

you should not need to -the forms auth cookie domain is set to / so it will work across the same domain. Please try adding mysite.com as a portal alias on your www.mysite.com site to see if that resolves.

Hi Cathal --
I don't think that will work.

How I tackled the issue was as follows:

1. Make sure you only use RELATIVE URL's in all your links to other pages on your site. (Go to Host...HTML Editor Manager...Everyone... and take check out of MakeUrlsAbsolute

2. Unfortunately you'll have to go edit every page/module on your site that has an absolute URL in it to get rid of this issue.

DNN sees www.yoursite.com and yoursite.com as 2 different sites, unfortunately... even if they are both in the Portal Alias table.  There are threads about Canonical URL's in the site settings, so that's what I have mine set at.

This can actually work to your advantage if you have multiple portal aliases.  For example, mysite.com, www.mysite.com, mysite.org, www.mysite.org -- you can be logged in as 4 different users and test out their permissions that way....

With that said, I do agree that there should be a way to have users only login once... and have it work for all variations of a url and their aliases.

Cathal, I've already done all of the alias stuff, and that's definitely not the fix for this issue.

M, what are the risks associated with your solution?  What do I lose or compromise?  Thanks for your helpful response!

As far as I can tell, there are no risks in using relative URLs unless you really want your users to use a specific URL.

Using relative urls, a user can login to mysite.com and all future link clicks to other pages on the site will load mysite.com/PageName.aspx

If another user visits mysite.org , all future link clicks to other pages on the site will load to mysite.org/PageName.aspx

If there's a reason to use absolute URLs, I don't know it!  Maybe someone else does?
