I am still having problems uploading certain files in DNN 3.2.2.  In a previous post someone suggested that I use the file "release.config".  They told me to copy the Security Keys, db connection string, and Object Qualifiers from my current web.config and place them in the release.config.  Then to rename web.config to old.config and rename release.config to web.config and this would solve my file manager problems.

However, I have printed out and scoured both my web.config and release.config.  The only section that I'm certain about copying is the db connection string.  Can anyone give me some assistance in knowning what other sections I need to copy into release.config?

I have know idea which section(s) contain the object qualifiers or the security keys.  I'm sure if they were snakes, they would have bitten me by now, but I don't know what they are.

Please HELP!

Thanks in advance for everyone's time!

Nadine

These are the other things you need to make sure you copy over. If your web.config file is older however, as in it was from dotnetnuke 1 or 2, it wont have the keys or anything in it (which could explain why you didnt see it, they just added that stuff when they began naming the file 'release.config' by default), and you dont have to worry about them until you upgrade (like to 3+ or 4), then make sure you copy all of the information over.

<add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=7.8.2.1,23;Database=audio32xT;uid=Myuid;pwd=usm38fTJ;" />

<add key="MachineValidationKey" value="DB02CB97BAE1814E49F1310895EC33B22FC70014" />

<add key="MachineDecryptionKey" value="6E324A6FF2B87D590B71D61FDD95C82A137C980893117CF0"/>

<add key="InstallationDate" value="11/19/2005" />

If you have made any further changes to your web.config file for third party modules HTTP compression, or database object qualifiers, copy these changes across to the release.config file

If you have enabled HTTP compression, disable it until you have completed the upgrade

Thanks for the info, but I'm still not clear on this stuff.

I'm using DNN 3.2.2.  This is the version I started with.  So, I'm not sure which is newer/older the web.config file I have or the release.config file.

Up to this point in time I've only made changes to 2 sections of my web.config.  I've obvioulsy changed the db Connection string line and I've made one other change that someone suggested to fix the problem with the file manager.

If copy the items above that you list along with the one other change I made is that all I need?

Still clueless.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Okay, I threw caution to the wind and did what you suggested.  I copied the stuff from web.config to release.config.  I renamed both files and reloaded site.  It came up okay.  But that did NOT fix my File Manager problem.  The page still loads with errors.  AND now I can't upload anything to my site.  I tried uploading a .doc file and as soon as I clicked "Upload Selected File" by browser displayed an error page that said Can't Load Page or somethint to that affect.  (the normal browser error message you get when you type in a non-existent URL).

Anyone have any ideas on how to get the file manager to work properly?  I'm using DNN 3.2.2.
