I have a production site I need to do some major modifications to.

I downloaded  and installed files and database.

Set it up in IIS on a win7 system.

configured a site and made an entry in win hosts file for anysite.us (a configured alias of the portal) at 127.0.0.1.

I tried to open it from within IIS brousing to the configured site and I seem to be redirected to the livesite.

I cant seem to get into my local host copy of the portal.

Is there a resource that can walk me through this?

Eli

Make sure you update your alias records for the site. I'll be it's still pointing to the "real" url. You can do this in SQL (since you can't get into the site at the moment)

I just cant seem to get it to work.

I added an alias, " mysite", on the live version and downloaded.

I configured the site in iis and sql serverexpress, modified the hosts file to identify "mysite" with 127.0.0.1.

now it redirects to mysite.com and returns whatever info is associated there.

I do have to make this happen. Any pointers are appreciated.

Isn't there a walk though discussing how to take a production site and make a copy for a local development site?

I"m not aware of any walkthroughs. I will note that my local copy has localhost/mysite instead of just mysite
