Hello,

I have a module where I want to set custom view permissions. So, I unchecked "inherit" and added a specific user to the permissions block. When I do, that user gets the "lock" symbol over every option and i can't set specific permissions for them - this is true with all users I've tried. I can still set permissions at the role level normally. The issue seems to occur across all modules I've checked.

I am on 6.1.3.

Is this a known bug? Am I just doing something stupid?

Thanks,

Mike

I can't say if this is a known bug or not but I will try to do some testing myself on that today as well.

That being said, it isn't a best practice to configure user level permissions, yes the option is there, but I would highly recommend the use of Roles instead of user permissions. If that "user" ever leaves your company/website/etc you will find that if you've configured permissions with roles, rather than individually for the user, transferring ownership to a new user (in a role) is far easier to manage.

Hi Chris,

Great - thanks for looking into it... Let me know if I can provide any further information or help at all.

Thanks as well for the tip. I'm still playing with how I want to handle the permissions. The case is that it's a conference management thing where some odd person with no other real involvement in anything is the "administrator" for a given conference. I made a module to do the administration for a specific conference, and have custom permissions for activities within that module. If we create a role, this module would be the only place it's used and it would only contain a single person - which is why I thought to maybe just do specific user permissions.

I'll keep your tip in mind though - it's definitely true that it might just be easier to have it centralized.

Thanks,

Mike
